The central diatom is from Oamaru, New Zealand, the Isthmia surrounding it are from California and quite a few of the others are either from Hamburg (no fossils 😉) or from Dunkirk, Maryland. Kind of the who is who of diatom locations worldwide. 🙂

What you might notice about this one is that it’s not perfectly regular concerning the positions of the diatoms. That’s actually due to my laziness / lack of time this summer and a few hot days over here in Northern Germany. 😂🙈 As always I used shellac as adhesive for the diatoms. Shellac only becomes sticky when you heat it, so normally when you leave an unfinished slide covered (to avoid dust) nothing happens and you can continue working and moving them around later. This time I waited too long however and on a very hot day the temperatures in my flat (under the roof) were apparently high enough to glue a few diatoms I had only positioned provisionally (probably around 40°C). When I noticed this a few weeks later when I wanted to continue working they could not be moved anymore and I had to add a few on the opposite sides to make it look halfway intentional. 😂

Hope you still like it, despite the slight imperfections. 😊

Sozusagen das Who is Who der besten Fundorte weltweit 🙂 .

Here is another diatom arrangement I made over the summer. 🙂 This one is a mixture of various species from quite a lot of places around the world.
